April 26, 2008 - Venice Impressions
The painting arrived about two weeks ago. I thought the painting looked
amazing when I was looking at pictures of it. Well, it looks incredible
in person. The colors are so vivid. And overall, it just has so much energy.
Anyway, the name of the painting is Venice Impressions. It measures 20 by
40 in. The medium used is oil on canvas with acrylic dripping.
I'm hunting for another cool-looking painting. I've looked for the past
few weeks, but I have not noticed anything interesting thus far in my search.
Oh yeah, I'm now at the ripe old age of 27.
April 11, 2008 - Art Collecting
Some of my friends have gently reminded me that I've not updated the
site in recent months. Well people, here's the update!
What's new? Well, let me blab about this new hobby of mine—art collecting.
When I was younger, I thought that art was cool, but in no way would I ever
spend my hard-earned money on collecting paintings and whatnot. That was
the old attitude. A few months ago, my thinking started to transform. I'm
not sure what exactly changed my view, but somehow I got interested in looking
at paintings. I went online and checked out the various original works for
sale. And over time, I discovered that I especially like cityscapes. I hunted
for my first potential acquisition of an original piece and while surfing
the net one day, I found it. It was a painting of a scene of the Grand Canal
in Venice. The painting was rather abstract, but still one can tell exactly
what it depicted. A few days later, I got in touch with the artist, who
lives in Romania, and bought that painting, my very first, directly from
her. I still can't believe I paid money for a painting. I could have bought
a new computer for the money I spent. Knowing my preoccupation with investing,
some have wondered whether this is my new method of diversification. No,
I'm not trying to diversify my investments. I mean, if the paintings I buy
soar in value, then that's awesome. But, they don't have to. Anyway, the
painting should arrive early next week. I'll post again when I get hold
of it.
